The first thought in all our minds regarding distracted driving is texting while driving. There is NO safety in using your cell phone-period - while driving. This includes talking on the phone, using a navigation system within the phone, texting, social networking and much more. There are always ways to improve your driving with less distractions especially when it comes to cell phone usage.
- Avoid Talking and Texting on your phone. It is unsafe for you and your passengers even if you are stopped at a red light or stop sign. If there is an important call, always park at a safe location and attend to calls or texts. If it is a pressing matter, opt to using a hands free device. But if there are no emergencies to deal with than do not put your life or the life of others in danger.
- If you are driving to a new location make sure you add your address into the navigation before you start driving. If you need to change the address, pull over to a parking location or ask someone in the car with you to help.
Just because your phone is mounted up on the dashboard doesn’t mean you can text or use your cell phone. Now, you are even more susceptible to glancing at your phone when a notification pops up. Social Networking is a serious distraction while driving. Turn off your notifications while driving! Most smart phones have a “Do Not Disturb” mode you can activate. No Facebook post or a new like on your picture is more important than endangering lives.
