It’s that time of the year; Mornings taken over by shoveling the sidewalks, waiting for our cars to heat up, and helplessly searching for last year’s car scraper. As we rush out the door to finish last-second holiday shopping or to work after sleeping in those extra few minutes – make sure to be cautious of the snow and ice covered roads. Be prepared and Drive Safe.
1. Before leaving for work or a holiday gathering, make sure your tires are properly inflated. Have your brakes checked to make sure the anti-lock system and traction control system are working properly.
2. The low winter temperatures affect the way cars start and run. Make sure your fluid levels – particularly anti-freeze – are sufficient.
3. Clear off your windshield and windows completely before leaving. Even if you are in a hurry, leaving snow piles on your car can put you and other drivers in danger.
(Do not be this guy. No one likes this guy.)
4. Keep your gas tank as full as possible. When the tank gets low, condensation and moisture in the gas lines can freeze which makes the car difficult to start.
5. All wheel drive and anti-lock brakes are not a substitute for driving cautiously. Take your time and be aware of black ice and other drivers.
Safe travels!
