Church Insurance: To Bundle or Not to Bundle?

When you shop around for insurance, you most likely may have been asked by the company if you’d like your policies bundled. As the name suggests, bundling is when you buy insurance policies from the same company. We know how hard it can be to find the perfect plans to insure your church and it definitely makes sense to shop for these from different companies. To bundle or not will be your decision at the end. To make this decision easier, let's talk about the benefits of bundling.

Benefits of bundling

If you chose to bundle your policies:

  • You will receive discounts ranging between 5-25% if you get your plans bundled.

  • Your deductibles may be cheaper in the event of a claim that affects multiple policies. In the case of damage caused to your church or company vehicle, your provider may only make you pay for the pricier one of the two deductibles.

  •  If you’ve got claims or tickets, the provider can decrease the chances of them being dropped on you.

However it is not always a good idea to bundle. Here are sometimes when it doesn't help:

  • If you have previous claims or tickets that make your auto insurance expensive, it is better to each policy from separate providers.

  • When the providers know that you are bundling, they may increase the prices as they assume you will not shop from different companies.

  • If your policies aren’t technically bundled it is not a good idea to bundle your policies from them. Some carriers may insure you with another company. You may get a discount but you’ll lose the convenience of paying your premium with one familiar provider.

A few tips to keep in mind:

  • Be sure to shop for new coverages when it is time to renew your policies. Ensure that you compare the prices of individual premiums as well as the bundled premiums and also compare these prices with other companies.

  • Ask the provider if they use a third party insurance company. You may save money but you lose the convenience of dealing with one provider and a combined bill.

  • Ask an independent insurance agent to get prices from other companies to make it easier for you. A loyal agent for a particular carrier may be able to offer you discounts that you won't get alone.
